Quite a few articles about Eric Bana being ‘leading contender’ to play Nick Stone. We’ll have to wait and see if he gets the part – but at least there’s news on the movie ‘Echelon’ which is good! No director yet it seems, but who knows… Andy gets some experience directing Boy Soldier.. he might take up the job himself!
I only give the link to one article , all the others are about the same. I’ll leave you with a nice pic of Eric.. so you can judge for yourself.. You think he’s the Nick Stone we dream about?

Hi,
He’ll pass but wouldn’t cause a heart flutter!
best
Well if Andy McNab is directing it would make perfect sense for Eric Bana to be starring, just to make sure the talent level is consistent.
No heart flutter Cindy? Heh, so which cork would fit your wine bottle then??
‘Which cork would fit your wine bottle?’
Damn Lynn, they need to get you in on the screenplay!
Too much credit J. Think I got it from the French Connection :p
Hi,
The older I get the younger my taste, buddy!
Guess that’s why I’m way behind on reading McNabite offerings. Lost track to be honest on what I’ve read so far.
I’m sort of visually oooh oooh Orlando Bloom – just loved him in Kindom of Heaven, and watched it again last night. Something to do with goatee beards I guess! Nothing like a bit of brush.
God the talent and wit is great as always in Mcnabosphere, just a pity audience material is thin on the ground. What happened to all the fans from the garden, the ones didn’t bolt for the shed?
Orlando? Only know him from Pirates and all my attention in that movie(s) went to Depp’s Jack Sparrow. That scene where he just makes it to land with his boat (schooner?) sinking. Absolutely brilliant.
Stats say we have quite an audience, but they’re of the silent type I guess. We’ ve been discussing adding a forum but… so far decided against it.
No idea if that audience includes the oldies (apart from you, no pun intended), people (and McNab fans) come and go. And some come back
I’m a dinosaur in McNabLand I guess. But a harmless one
OMG you didn’t watch Lord of the Rings? Orlando blond in that movie.
JD has such a wicked grin, so yeah would say he gets 10-10 for Jack Sparrow! But, but, I’m still a fan of Sean Bean when playing a baddy. The Sharpe series went downhill on last couple of series – diabolical script and too anti Brit in content.
That said I love historical stuff, modern warfare impacting every day with images of Lineham and Wooton Basset, and that kinda makes it feel too close for comfort.
Silent fans or ghosts!? So many dead or gone from the circuit.
best
Ah crap, Legolas! Yes, saw LOTR. But probably forgot since the character Boromir was more impressive, SB always good but definitely more hot as a baddy – I agree
Ghosts?? They dont show in stats, perhaps we have a bigger audience than we thought.
Define ‘the circuit’ though?
Those still in the bizz!
Hope not , I would prefer Clive Owen a British Actor
I’ve always thought Clive Owen would be perfect as well.
Please, NOT Clive Owen! I still hate him from King Arthur…
Eric Bana would work for me. Besides, with a bit of luck he remembers how to handle guns and explosives (ex-”Delta”, after all) which should cut down on preparation time…
But I have doubts whether a Nick Stone movie would work at all. Unless there’s lots of voice-overs (which I generally find rather annoying) there won’t be the first-person point of view and I don’t see the film conveying all the technical details, either. So at best it’ll be another action movie (which I’ll watch if it’s with Eric Bana…)
Clive is gorgeous and I favoured him for the part for a long time.. a long time ago, when he was a good British actor but kind of unknown to the big crowds. Not so much now he’s gotten Hollywood fame. Good for him though.
As for a Nick Stone movie.. I’ve always thought it will be a tough job to please the Nick Stone fans, we’ll have to wait and shiver, hopefully with positive outcome.
Thanks for sharing Kade! Welcome to the site
Who ever Andy picks to be Nick Stone he will have to be a chap walks , Who is handsome and with speaks with a eloquent softly spoken voice , Although when you look in to his eyes you can see that he is a very experienced gentleman and a no nonsense type of chap .
But a lady can also see a different side to him and want to take him home and look after him .
Another suggestion would be Rupert Evans
Sean Bean for me in the role not much of a bod but that voice gets right under my skin mmm
How about Ewan McGregor or Max Beesley being contenders’ to play Nick Stone.
When is Andy actually going to decide who is going to be the ‘leading contender’ to play Nick Stone. Does any one have any information with regards to this .
No idea @ when, but I’m sure Andy doesn’t have the only say in the matter (unfortunately?). All interested parties will have an opinion.. read: ..the movie has to make money!
Andy ones said in an interview he’d like Jason Statham to get the job.
I guess Jason Statham would be an improvement over Eric Bana, but I’d personally love to see Ewan McGregor (probably too much to hope for) or Clive Owen. Like Lynn said, though, Andy won’t have any say in it. He’s rich, but he’s not producer rich. When it comes to casting leads, it’s ultimately the call of the people with the money — though sometimes they let the director have his or her way (within reason).
Lynn i have never heard of Jason Statham ,Untill you metioned the gentleman .
Sorry but i do not think he would be my Nick Stone , I want a officer and gentleman type guy . Sorry Andy xxx
I think that is the whole ‘problem’ with Nick Stone turning into a movie character – everyone has got their own view on Nick Stone’s look and image/appeal. And there will be only one Nick Stone when he becomes ‘flesh and blood’. I think who becomes Nick Stone will be crucial for the Nick Stone book lovers, it can make and break the movie.
Since 2001 there has been speculation who should/could be Nick Stone in the movie and I’ve heard SO many suggestions that I’m lost. I really don’t have a favorite at the moment. But I do have a lot of screaming NO’s though. Like Brad Pitt, often suggested. NOOOOOOO!!!!
Hi there! New to the McNab fan club! Just started reading his books in May and I’m almost done them all! Can’t stop reading! Way to thrilling!! I would love to see movie by McNab! I agree with the no Brad Pitt, way too pretty boy! The guy has to be a rough handsome guys guy! I think Gerard Butler would be perfect!
Hi there Stev’s! Welcome to the club. Hope you enjoy the site
Gerard Butler would be a good Nick Stone IMO , he was pretty good in the movie “Gamer”and when you look at some of the covers of the nick stone stories so far i.e “brute force ,exit wound & zero hour” they all feature a character on the front.I can visualise Gerard Butler on that front cover.
Also “law abiding citizen” , class film , excellent actor which would do Nick Stone justice.Thats my mind made up , anything could be a dissapointment .
Can we get a petition to sign Gerard Butler ?
I would like the film to be aimed towards the adult viewers , maybe rated 18 ,as the film “Taken” with Liam Neeson, Also would like the production to be similar to Jason Bourne as i think they are better movies then , lets say James Bond. With Gerard Butler to play Stone it could be the best action/spy/thriller out there.
yep, Butler is the best so far.
